Często mówimy o tym, że jesteśmy empatyczni, potrafimy spojrzeć na świat wielowymiarowo i przyjąć perspektywę innego człowieka. Na poziomie deklaratywnym wszystko się zgadza, ale w rzeczywistości to jedynie nasze subiektywne przekonanie, które nierzadko bardzo mocno odbiega od naszych faktycznych zachowań. Jeżeli ktoś wyniósł z domu rodzinnego przekonanie, że jego perspektywa jest słuszna i że inni powinni się dostosować to jego prawda będzie jedyna i najważniejsza. Nikt się do tego nie przyzna, ponieważ pod płaszczykiem dobrego wychowania, dostosowania się do wymogów grupy, czy świadomego manipulowania własnym wizerunkiem będzie to skrzętnie ukrywane.
Wracając do domu rodzinnego i dzieciństwa, można zauważyć, że rola rodziców w kształtowaniu obserwacji świata z wielu perspektyw jest kluczowa. Jako dzieci byliśmy ciekawi wszystkiego, co nas otacza i dopiero podczas procesu socjalizacji zaczęliśmy „etykietyzację” świata wokół nas. Oczywiście można się nauczyć szerszej perspektywy także w dorosłym życiu, ale jak pokazuje moje doświadczenie pracy z wieloma ludźmi, nie jest to już takie łatwe.
Osobiście uwielbiam podróżować. To jedna z moich życiowych pasji i wierzę, że nigdy ta wewnętrzna potrzeba doświadczania „innego” nie wyczerpie się we mnie. Jest w tym także jeszcze jeden – w moim przekonaniu – głębszy sens. Podróżuję po to, aby zakwestionować moją własną wersję rzeczywistości, aby zobaczyć coś, czego nie zobaczę w kręgach ludzi, wśród których na co dzień żyję, a więc w dobrze wykształconej i europocentrycznej grupie, która nie jest reprezentatywna dla całej ludzkości, a w szczególności dla tej części, która zamieszkuje inne kontynenty poza Europą.
Warto zastanowić się nad tym, co właściwie czują inni ludzie, co się z nimi dzieje i dlaczego? Jest to szczególnie ważne, gdy dysponujemy przewagą fizyczną, finansową, psychologiczną, czy wreszcie hierarchiczną. Poczucie nieadekwatności innych ludzi zarówno w naszych oczach, jak i z perspektywy tych właśnie osób jest trudne i czasem każdy z nas był w takiej sytuacji. Jako ludzie odczuwamy silną pokusę tworzenia historii, opisujących obraz innych ludzi, wydarzeń, czy świata. Niestety często dajemy się porwać nurtowi niepełnych opowieści, które niosą narrację tylko naszej perspektywy. Warto więc rozmawiać, ale w taki sposób, aby dać naszemu rozmówcy być wysłuchanym. Możemy się nie zgadzać, buntować się i sprzeciwiać, ale pamiętajmy o dialogu, ponieważ monolog nie prowadzi do porozumienia i dostrzeżenia perspektywy drugiego człowieka. Jeżeli chcemy zyskać pełny obraz świata, dobrze pojąć ludzi, których po prostu chcemy szanować, zrozumieć ich potrzeby i szukać sposobów nawiązania z nimi kontaktu, trzeba uwzględnić i docenić różne perspektywy.
Moja prawda nie jest jedyna i nie jest najważniejsza. Od czasu do czasu staram się sobie to powtarzać, gdy czuję, że chcę uprościć pewne sprawy w postrzeganiu świata i perspektywy innych ludzi. Moje korzenie, tożsamość, kraj z którego pochodzę, czy zwiększająca się suma doświadczeń określają moją perspektywę. Czy ona jest słuszna? Nie mnie to oceniać. Jest moja, ale jest także subiektywna, bo odpowiedź może zawsze zaczynać się od słów „to zależy”. Mając w sali konferencyjnej dziesięć osób i dyskutując z nimi na ten sam temat, wiem, że każdy może zapatrywać się na poruszany wątek zupełnie inaczej. Dlatego zawsze staram się o parafrazę tego, co było powiedziane, a w dalszej części o podsumowanie, aby upewnić się, że perspektywa drugiego człowieka jest zbieżna z moją albo jednak się różni i to też jest bardzo potrzebna informacja zwrotna. Wielokrotnie w postrzeganiu perspektywy innych ludzi pomagała mi uważność i wrażliwość na to, co słyszę od drugiego człowieka. Wszystko ma tutaj znaczenie, zarówno komunikacja werbalna, jak i ta niewerbalna, na którą czasem pozostajemy głusi. Znane porzekadło mówi, że „syty głodnego nie zrozumie”, a więc ten, kto sam nie znalazł się w takiej samej trudnej sytuacji jak inny człowiek, nigdy go nie zrozumie. Doświadczałem tego wielokrotnie, więc uważność z pewnością ma ogromne znaczenie.
Ostatnim punktem, który chciałbym poruszyć to inkluzywność. Słowo, które przywędrowało do nas ze świata anglosaskiego, a słownik PWN objaśnia je jako włączenie lub działanie przeznaczone dla wszystkich. Jest przeciwieństwem wykluczenia, które może dotyczyć różnych sfer życia człowieka. Ja interpretuję inkluzywność jako zaoferowanie szansy innej perspektywie. Jeżeli będziemy umieli uszanować faktyczną prawdę innego człowieka, a nie tylko niedoskonałą wersję mojej wizji świata to z pewnością uczynimy pierwszy krok w patrzeniu na świat oczami innych. Niejako włączymy ich poglądy, przekonania i pojmowanie świata do repertuaru naszej perspektywy. Nie musimy się ze wszystkim zgadzać, ale po prostu zrozumieć i uszanować, że ktoś myśli inaczej i ma do tego prawo. Nie ma znaczenia czy mówimy o pracy, o podróżach, formach spędzania wolnego czasu, czy relacjach międzyludzkich. Perspektywa innego człowieka jest ważna i tylko od nas zależy, czy pozostanie na poziomie deklaratywnym, bo w pewnych kręgach wymaga tego od nas poprawność polityczna, czy jednak będzie prawdziwa i rozwijająca dla nas wszystkich.
